How Militant Faith Works

Militant Faith is a Templar timeless jewel built around the Devotion mechanic in Path of Exile. When socketed, it transforms keystones within its 1500-unit radius into powerful Templar versions and grants Devotion to small passives. The Devotion stacks from small passives scale the effectiveness of nearby aura and minion modifiers.

The seed number (2000-10000) determines which conqueror's keystone transformation you receive. The four Templar conquerors—Venarius, Maxarius, Dominus, and Avarius—each grant a different keystone: Inner Conviction, Transcendence, or Power of Purpose. Notable passives receive modifiers that scale with Devotion, including Area of Effect, Elemental Damage, and Mana Regeneration.

The Devotion mechanic is unique to Militant Faith—no other timeless jewel introduces a stacking resource. This makes Militant Faith particularly powerful for builds that can maximize Devotion stacks through careful socket placement and passive tree pathing.

Keystone Deep Dive

Inner Conviction (Avarius)

You cannot gain Power Charges. 3% more Spell Damage per Power Charge.

The most popular Militant Faith keystone for damage-focused builds. By sacrificing the ability to gain Power Charges naturally, you instead gain 3% more Spell Damage per Power Charge. Combined with Power Charge generation from other sources (Assassin's Mark, Forbidden Rite, etc.), this can provide 15-30% more Spell Damage. Essential for Inquisitor and Elementalist spell builds.

Transcendence (Dominus)

Maximum Elemental Resistances are 90%. Armour applies to Elemental Damage instead of Physical Damage.

A niche but powerful defensive keystone for high-armour builds. By redirecting armour's mitigation from physical to elemental damage, Transcendence enables unique elemental tank builds. Requires very high armour values (50,000+) to be effective. Works exceptionally well with Juggernaut and Armour-stacking builds that face heavy elemental damage.

Power of Purpose (Maxarius)

Energy Shield does not Recharge. Gain Armour and Elemental Resistances based on Reserved Mana.

Specialized keystone for high mana reservation builds. By converting reserved mana into armour and elemental resistances, Power of Purpose enables builds that run many auras to gain significant defensive benefits. Works well with Guardian and Hierophant builds that maximize mana reservation efficiency.

Shrine Mechanics

Militant Faith notable passives can grant shrine effects when you have sufficient Devotion. Shrines provide powerful temporary buffs that activate automatically or when triggered by specific conditions.

🔥 Acceleration Shrine

Grants increased Attack Speed, Cast Speed, and Movement Speed. One of the most valuable shrine effects for clear speed.

⚡ Echoing Shrine

Skills repeat an additional time. Extremely powerful for damage output, effectively doubling your DPS.

💪 Brutal Shrine

Grants increased damage and knockback. Useful for both offense and defensive positioning.

🛡️ Massive Shrine

Increases character size and grants increased Area of Effect. Valuable for AoE-focused builds.

Note: Shrine effects from Militant Faith require at least 150 Devotion to activate. Stack Devotion through small passives to unlock these powerful buffs.

Best Builds for Militant Faith

Inner Conviction Spell Builds: Inquisitor, Elementalist, and Occultist spell builds are the primary users of Inner Conviction. The 3% more Spell Damage per Power Charge scales exceptionally well with Power Charge stacking. Builds using Forbidden Rite, Crackling Lance, or other high-damage spells benefit most from this keystone.

Energy Blade Builds: Energy Blade converts your Energy Shield into a weapon, and Inner Conviction's spell damage scaling applies to Energy Blade attacks. This makes Militant Faith a core item for Energy Blade Inquisitor and similar builds.

Aura-Stacking Builds: Guardian and Hierophant builds that run many auras benefit from Power of Purpose's mana reservation scaling. The Devotion mechanic also enhances aura effectiveness, making Militant Faith doubly valuable for aura-focused characters.

Best Socket Locations: The jewel socket near the Templar start is ideal for most Militant Faith builds. The socket between Templar and Marauder works well for hybrid builds. For Inner Conviction builds, prioritize sockets that cover high-value spell damage notable clusters.
